The initiative to get a Santhali edition for Wikipedia, began six years ago, in 2012.
According to the 2001 census, Santhali is written in Oli Chiki script
and spoken by 6.4 million people.

CPI(M) leader and former State Minister, Deblina Hembrem, gave an inspiring speech and
enthused the participants by speaking in her mother tongue, Santhali, and sometimes in Bangla.
Several dancing styles in vogue in the northeastern part of the Indian subcontinent, like Manipuri Santhali dances, are practiced,
but Bangladesh has developed its own distinct dancing styles.
To deal first with the Mundari language, the first in my amendment,
I may say that I have not mentioned Santhali because Mundari is the generic term given
to the family of languages sometimes called Austric and at other times called Mon-Khmer.
